Ask the counselee “How can I help you today?”

Ask the counselee: “Suppose if God, in his infinite wisdom and ability, came to you tonight and gave you all the wisdom you needed to be the best parent the world has ever seen, what would your life be like?”

Help them understand the reality of their situation if they continue down the path they are traveling.

Ask the counselee: “What would God want you to do about it?”

Provide some biblical insight into what God would want them to do:

1 Samuel 1:27-28          1 Samuel 3:13          1 Kings 1:5-6

Psalms 103:17-18          2 Timothy 3:14-15         Ephesians 6:4

Proverbs 29:15         Proverbs 29:17          Matthew 15:4

In putting together a plan of action, the pastor should take into consideration the following:

  1. Parenting need to be consistent, loving, and planned.
  2. Parents need to spend time with their children:  playing, laughing, exploring, and developing.
  3. Parents need to instill in their children godly habits and disciplines such as memorizing Scripture, praying, and reading the Bible.
